LESSON ELEVEN OF ELEVEN : Are There Really Eternal Judgments & Rewards? Part 2

So, what are the rewards of being a believer and being saved and becoming a Christian? Is there a reward now? The answer is yes. I have already shared with you that when I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I found that I have a peace about death. This had always been my biggest fear. * But lets find out what the Bible says.

Genesis 15:1
After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Why would Abram be afraid? Perhaps he feared revenge from the kings that he had just defeated, before God spoke these words to Abram. These words were spoken just prior to the covenant that God and Abram had made. God gave Abram two reasons for courage not to fear. He promised to protect Abram and he promised Abram a reward. Not only a reward but an exceeding great reward.

Have you read this verse and taken it deep into your heart? Isaiah 41:10 ¶ Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Psalms 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

So when we die we have absolutely nothing to fear because if this time is so precious in the sight of the Lord and we know that it is because we just read it, do we honestly think that He would miss such a precious time in our lives? No, He will be right there with us, holding us in His arms as we pass into our sleep and await for His return in all His glory when the dead in Christ shall rise.

Does anyone remember what that reward is? Genesis 22:17-18 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians 6:16

Above all may mean that the shield of faith is to be used against everything. It may also mean that the shield of faith is to cover the whole armor.. The whole body; Heart, mind, body and soul. A Roman’s soldiers shield typically measured two and a half feet by four feet. The believers shield offers protection against all the fiery darts of the wicked. Flaming arrows could not penetrate the fireproof shield of the ancient Roman soldier, nor can the assaults of satan penetrate the Christian soldier, who places his or her faith in God.

2 Chronicles 15:7
Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

This is an inspiration for us, too. Recognition and great reward are great motivators that have two dimensions. The temporary reward is that while we are on earth, God will protect us and lead us not into temptation , but will deliver us from evil and the evil one. He always provides a way from evil and we can always trust in Him that He will. It is up to us to find that way but when we ask Him, He will show us. The Bible does not say that we will not have trials and tribulations. In fact is says just the opposite.

Deuteronomy 4:29-31 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

Psalm 31:23
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

David was the writer of this Psalm. He was telling the community of people to continue praising The Lord. Of all the sacrifices that were made in The Old Testament period, only the sacrifice of praise continues in New Testament worship. David said that The Lord preserves the faithful and rewards them plentifully.

Psalm 103:10
He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

If God were to deal with all of us according to our sins, we would all fall, just like Adam. No one could stand before Him on the day of judgment and live. The mercy of God is greater than the heavens and thank God that His love is bigger than His wrath. We can know this because God loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus. The fact that God remembers who we are and how He made us is another mark of His Mercy. He originally made Adam, with out sin. God has not forgotten how He created us. He knows our potential. This in itself is a reward. He could have destroyed the world right after the fall of man, but He didn’t.

Isaiah 52:12
For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your reward. In the New King James Version, this scripture says this: For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the LORD will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

I like this little added text in the last sentence. He will be our rear guard. I have read this else where in the Kings James Version and so I know that this is a true statement. God promises to go before us and to walk behind us. This is a huge reward to me because I know that no matter where I go in this world, God is right there in front of me leading me in His path and yet I know that He walks behind me making sure that no one comes to try to stab me from behind. He is always with me, keeping an eye on evil and on good. He points the way for me and He stands behind the way that He points me to.

Matthew 6:3-4
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret Himself, shall reward thee openly.

First of all, what is an alms? I went to dictionary.com to find this answer: money, food, or other donations given to the poor or needy; anything given as charity.

Anything we give in secret will be rewarded to us by God Himself who watches us do this in secret. If we boast about what we have done for others, then we have already received our reward. Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. (this was Jesus talking)

Matthew 10:42
And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. (this was Jesus talking)

Matthew 16:27
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. (this was Jesus talking)

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

I like this one really well too because it tells me a whole bunch: Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

I can tell you that I have no plans of escaping to some un-written place to await my reward when Jesus comes and brings it with Him. I will be waiting right here on earth, either in the grave or in person, just as is taught in the scriptures. the Bible say that redemption draweth nigh. That means redemption is heading towards me, not taking me away to some un-written place to be re-deemed.

Speaking of redeemed.  We can actually know what is the favorite song of Jesus.  It is the Song of the Redeemed.    SMILE

This verse bears repeating again: Revelation 22:12 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”

The rewarding of each believer according to his or her works is taught in 2nd Corinthians 5:10. Christ’s rewards are meant to provide a powerful incentive for an obedient life. After Christ Jesus comes again, He will give rewards to His own. This can be counted on because the word tells us this. Christ is in control of all history and eternity. After all it is called His- Story

The day of judgment can be a day of great regret or a day of supreme joy. That day and the reward that we receive is ultimately up to Christ because He is the giver of our reward and He said He is bringing our reward with Him. Only He knows the heart and judges us accordingly. If we surrender our heart to Him now and follow Him in obedience, we can begin to judge ourselves here and now. What we don’t see, the Holy Spirit is sure to reveal to us so that we can get ourselves prepared for His return.

Did you know that the Bible tells us that we can judge ourselves.

1 Corinthians 11:31
For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

If we would judge ourselves, God would not need to correct us. But when believers are unwilling to do this self examination, God Himself will bring us through a trial to train and discipline us so that we can make the improvement in the area that we chose to ignore.

The next verse explains this; 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Thank God He has a plan and has even called us to include us in His great big plan. We do not have to know all that there is to know about His great big plan, but we are to know the Planner of all that is to come.

We may not know all His plans but we can know that we are in His hands.

Pick up your Bible. Read it for the first time. Get to know the Creator of all that is and ever will be. Trust in the Spirit of God that leads you. He will never ever lead you astray. Know the word, so that when the enemy does come and lie to you that you will be able to stand up against the wiles of the devil, knowing that you stand on the solid truth of what is written and is God breathed into Your very soul.

It is called the Living Word, because Jesus died on the cross and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God, interceding on our behalf before the throne of Grace. Jesus is alive. he has risen and He will never leave you, nor forsake you. Trust Him. Trust Jesus with every detail of your life. It would be foolish of us if we were to surrender our life to Him at the foot of the cross and not trust Him with every single detail thereafter.  If everyone who believes in Jesus is wrong, so what?  Maybe they all are.  Maybe I am.  But in the long run,  what have I got to loose if I am right? Think about that…

Jesus went out, and His disciples saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am? it was Peter who answered Jesus , who by the way represents all of us. Peter said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

No human being hath revealed this to Peter but it was revealed to him by God, by the Spirit of God and Peter spoke forth his faith. This revelation came from with-in Peter. Peter had spent quite a bit of time walking with Jesus, observing Him in all that He did, much the same that folks watch us and come to the same conclusion. We are sold out to the Living God who is Christ Jesus. The darkness must be removed from the heart by the Holy Spirit, before a man can become wise unto salvation.

Flesh and blood have not shown it. In spite of our human appearance–our lowly state– Folks will look upon us with their eyes and with their own minds and will determine with in themselves who we are by the mirror image that we reflect.  That is the life of which we are taught and how we live it, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

How do we learn what we learn? The same as the rest of the world if they would just pick up their Bibles and allow the Holy Spirit to breathe into them the very same truth.

There were chosen 12 disciples, One betrayed Jesus and then another was chosen as a replacement. Paul was chosen to go to the Gentiles (un-circumcised) and the rest were to go to the circumcised. Has your heart been circumcised? Then the whole of the scriptures are for you. Every single word.

Nothing has changed from the beginning of time and God has declared the end from the beginning. If you must know how it will all turn out, trust in that scripture passage alone and keep moving forward. Isaiah 46:9-10 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

It is up to God to determine how it will all turn out.  Yet even He has told us that the end will be much like the beginning. We are heading back to the garden where Adam and Eve left off when they chose the way of the evil one and were separated from the presence of God. We will be in His presence forever more, His counsel will stand and it will be His pleasure to show us… things not yet done.

1Corinthians 2:9-16 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 1Co 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Without the regenerating grace of the Spirit of God, man can not even begin to understand the things that are written in scripture because they have been breathed upon by the Spirit of God and only those who have this breath, can understand them.  To others, the words there-in are foolish and mean nothing.

Take a deep deep breath, read, take it in… Let the word of God sink way down deep with-in your soul and then breath it out into the air and penetrate the darkness with the Light of Him who lives with in you.
