LESSON NINE OF ELEVEN : How Can We Begin A Relationship?

Proverbs 8 (New Living Translation)

Wisdom Calls for a Hearing

Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads. By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud, “I call to you, to all of you! I raise my voice to all people. You simple people, use good judgment. You foolish people, show some understanding. Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you.

Everything I say is right, for I speak the truth and detest every kind of deception. My advice is wholesome. There is nothing devious or crooked in it. My words are plain to anyone with understanding, clear to those with knowledge.

Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.

“I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine.

Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments. “I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me. I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice. My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries.

“The Lord formed me from the beginning, before He created anything else. I was appointed in ages past, at the very first, before the earth began. I was born before the oceans were created, before the springs bubbled forth their waters. Before the mountains were formed, before the hills, I was born—before He had made the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil.

I was there when He established the heavens, when He drew the horizon on the oceans. I was there when He set the clouds above, when He established springs deep in the earth. I was there when He set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when He marked off the earth’s foundations, I was the architect at His side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in His presence.

And how happy I was with the world He created; how I rejoiced with the human family! “And so, my children, listen to me, for all who follow my ways are joyful.

Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don’t ignore it. Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. But those who miss me injure themselves. All who hate me love death.”

We read here that the origin of wisdom, came from God. The teachings of wisdom are:

Wisdom is good Judgment.

Wisdom is hatred of every kind of deception

Wisdom is understanding

Wisdom is clear to those with knowledge

Wisdom determines the importance of things

Wisdom is truth

Wisdom is knowing where to find knowledge

Wisdom is discernment

Wisdom is the fear of The Lord

Wisdom was present at the creation and works with The Creator. God approves of those who listen to wisdom’s council. Those who hate wisdom, love death. Wisdom should affect every aspect of our entire life, from the beginning to the end. We must open all corners of our life to God’s direction and guidance.

By the way let’s look at this strong word guidance: When we are dancing with a partner, one kinda leads and the other one follows and each takes their que from each other. So when couples have been dancing together for years, they become almost as if they , the two of them, are one.

This is a beautiful picture because it is almost as if they flow to the music as naturally as water flows in a stream. But to have this kind of beauty in the dance… it takes lots of practice, trust and surrender in a sense, because the two really begin to rely on each other because one must lead and one must follow in order to create the beauty.

So when we link up with God, and He leads the dance of our life, we become a beautiful picture of His creation and as long as He is leading, we have that natural flow in our life.

Now look at this word just a tad bit differently… gui- dance. Let’s just say that the ’g’ stands for God and He is leading the word, what do you see that follows? God, U and I dance.

The offer of wisdom is held out only to those who fear God. Coming to wisdom requires coming to God, and coming to God means turning away from all that God hates. Do you know that there are seven things The Lord detests? Proverbs 6:16-19 (Check it out for yourself)

Power and authority require the use of wisdom. If a king does not have wisdom, how can he wisely lead his kingdom? If our commander and chief, the president, does not have wisdom, the people of the nation would not show much wisdom if they re-elected him for a second term.

Now let’s look at the rewards of being wise.

Wisdom leads to riches and honor.

Wisdom is greater than silver or gold.

Wisdom leads us to find life.

Wisdom is enduring wealth and justice.

Who ever finds wisdom, finds life.

In this passage, we find that wisdom is tied to the fear of The Lord.

Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.

Jeremiah 29:13
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Wow, when we truly seek God, He will reveal Himself to us. This is a promise.

Proverbs 2:1-12 is all about The Value of Wisdom.

My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth, come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you, To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things, (NKJV 1-12)

Man cannot live by bread alone, (the material food that we eat daily) but by every word that proceeds through the mouth of God. (the daily substance of life) Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Our lives are maintained by the word of God and this word of God provides eternal life and must become our daily substance.

Seek ye first, the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. All these things will be added. If we dig and dig into the Bible, like we are digging for silver; we will hit the true vein of God. We will become rich beyond all our wildest imaginations in wisdom and understanding. We will ultimately know the wisdom of God. Is this possible? Yes, His Word is true and never returns void. God does not lie.

Numbers 23:19
“God is not a man, that He should lie Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Matthew 13: 45-46
The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

In other words, if we seek God in all our ways, in all our heart , in all our mind, we will find that which is more precious that pearls. Then we can give God our all and never look back as if we lost anything because we gain the entire Kingdom of God, if we buy into His great wisdom and not the things of this world.

Praise God and His infinite wisdom that He would make these references to show us that there is no measure to compare , nothing on this earth is worth waiting for. We must go with God. He paid the price for us and we owe our life to Him , even yet, a debt that we could never re-pay. We don’t even have to, because He paid the price for all our sins on the cross. We never have to look back upon sin again.

The fear of the Lord means reverent submission that leads to obedience .. If we submit all that we are, all that we have and ever hope to be, into His will, we will know the fear of the Lord. This is a type of worship-fear also knowing God’s great forgiveness, mercy, and love for us and our lives…. while we are on earth’s soil.

We know that in our relationship and daily walk with God, He always says “I Love you” first.

Knowing this draws us closer to God rather than causing us to run away from Him. It causes us to submit gladly and to delight in obedience. The fear of God is more than being afraid of Him. We should all fear the Lord in shear terror because God is angry with un-righteousness and He is angry that the world is so completely full of sin, but through His son, we can rest assured that we can soften His anger with us. Why? Because He loves us more than anything. God is crazy about us really… We need to just turn towards His will instead of away from His will.

He is slow to anger and I believe that He begins to smile upon us when we turn towards His will. His smile is our strength to carry on. It is at the very heart of worship, true worship that we can find this rest and assurance. It is a reverence that we show in acknowledgement to Him for being exactly in the place where we should be. It is where we see Him, in the Holiest of Holies, .. on the throne! It is here where He meets us, at His feet…

He is Holy and it is by God’s grace, we can grow in knowing His Holiness. This is the knowledge and wisdom that He gives us when we seek for Him in all our ways. When we bow down to Him, instead of our own selfish needs, we find that we indeed, we ourselves become a sacrifice to Him. Though the terms “reverence” and “awe” imply a place for “trembling”, this is where most people make the connection? Revere Him, be in awe of His awesome power to strike us dead with one of His thunderbolts. If He wanted to… He could. If God wanted to smote us with a flame of fire from the sky, you had better believe … He could.

Psalm 33:8-9
Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

The Apostle Paul indicated that “fear and trembling” are combined. Philippians 2: 12 & 13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

A very wise man named Job, spoke these words, “Wisdom is more valuable than gold and crystal. It cannot be purchased with jewels mounted in fine gold.” Job 28:17 He also said, “Coral and jasper are worthless in trying to get it. The price of wisdom is far above rubies.” Job 28:18

Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are twisted. Proverbs 2:12

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:7

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. Proverbs 3:13

Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 3:15

To discipline a child produces wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child. Proverbs 29:15

Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life. Ecclesiastes 7:12

And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is a wonderful teacher, and he gives the farmer great wisdom. Isaiah 28:29

Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. Luke 2:52

The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here—but you refuse to listen. (This was Jesus talking) Matthew 12:42

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say,” He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” 1 Corinthians 3:19

God wants us to be wise. But to gain wisdom, we must know Him so that He can show us how to use the wisdom He gives us.

We must not ever lean on our own understanding, but in all of our ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our path.

We can begin a relationship with God, through Christ Jesus His Son, by simply making a very wise choice, to accept His plan for our lives, to know that He has a purpose for our lives and to seek Him with all of our heart so that we can find Him and begin to walk in His will, through the light of Christ Jesus. We can call upon the name of Jesus Christ, and we can begin to walk in His light. We can become obedient to His Word, and take up our cross daily… in the reading of His Word. In this way, we can meet with God every day, and ask Him to show us what His desire is for our life.

He is faithful and He is just. 1 John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Determine to walk with God.

Live a life of purpose and meaning by deciding to follow God’s plan for your life.

Decide to be a spiritual warrior.

Desire to be the hero God intended by building your faith through spiritual training and God’s discipline.

Desire to tell others about Jesus Christ.

Stay connected to God’ power by being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Pray and read God’s Word.

God will help you be a witness as you spend time with Him through prayer and reading His Word.

Pray in God’s Word.

Let the scriptures into your prayer life, connect yourself to God, using His words.

Praying in the preparation to lead others to Christ Jesus. As you walk in His plans, your friends and those that you love….. will follow.
