The Gifts of Healing by the Same Spirit

 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 ¶ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. {accursed: or, anathema}

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. {administrations: or, ministries}  And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

This was promised to the disciples of the Saviour; and in the early church was conferred on many. It would seem from this passage that the gift of healing was conferred on some in a more eminent degree than on others.

However, is the gift of healing for today?

 I say wholeheartedly YES.

Is the spirit of God alive in those who have called up on His name and received salvation?

Yes…   The Bible tells us in the great commission, a great importance, which is often left out…

Mark16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

And ‘these signs shall follow them that believe‘; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Therefore, either one believes in all the commission or they do not.  Some might have a delusion that the gift of healing is not for today, but I believe that since it is part of what comes with the great commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel, with signs following those who truly believe in what they preach, then yes. The gift is alive and well today.  Many teach that the gospel of salvation.  This is not what Jesus said,  “Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”  This was after Jesus opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. You can find this in Luke 24

I believe that we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit who imparts the gifts, as He deems necessary according to what God calls us to do.  I believe that the disciples of Jesus are still working today, through the power of the Holy Spirit who is alive through the scriptures in the writings of those who were called to write their testimony.  We, who live today and walk in the Spirit, live our lives accordingly, exemplifying the life and power of the Holy Spirit that lives with-in us. I am not called to go ye into the entire world to preach the gospel.  I am however called to exemplify God by living my life unto His glory and those who see His light shining in me, will be drawn to His light… not mine.  It is He who lives with-in me that teaches those with-in this tiny little remote area that I live in and where ever I go that is doing my part to show the love of God to others. This testimony I hold that bares the record of Jesus Christ is that I keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I believe that it all falls under the gift of faith, by the same Spirit. Truth must always occupy our minds, otherwise we will be deceived to believe a lie rather than the truth, preferring false apostles and their erroneous doctrines to the pure truths of the Gospel, brought to us by the well-accredited messengers of God, that are written in the scriptures of the Holy Bible.  We are to embrace the gifts of the Spirit for us now, just as they did back then because the same Spirit that dwelled in the Apostles and Disciples back then, is the very same Spirit that dwells in the believer today. To believe otherwise would be to believe a lie.

Matthew 17:19-20 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief

Jesus told the disciples then that it was because of their unbelief that they had not been able to cast out a demon from a fella who had a demonic derangement. This person was so bad off that he often fell in fire or sometimes fell in water so much so, that his life was in continual danger.  The enemy does not care what state we were born in.  He knows that with God their are no mistakes.  He knows that God does and will work in folks who are born with what we might see in the natural as a disadvantage. God will use any advantage or disadvantage in any person He deems to do so because He knows what He has created and as I said earlier, He never makes a mistake.  However, that does not stop the enemy from going after those who are disadvantaged.  He does not care one hoot…  because He also knows that God uses us, no matter what affliction we have.

We are not to be filled with unbelief.  We would be useless to God if we did not believe and have faith in the gifts of the Spirit. Not the gift in us, but the Spirit who gives us these gifts and this is Jesus who gave us His Spirit to guide us continually until our last breath.

We are not limited at all because we have great and wonderful gifts given to us by the Spirit.  Jesus did not leave us defenseless against the powers of the enemy.  In fact, the word tells us just the opposite.  He has given us authority over ‘all’ the powers of the enemy.  Not only that but we are to rejoice not that the spirits are subject to God’s power but to rejoice because our names are written in heaven.

Luke 10:19-20 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding, in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

This does not mean we need to run out and challenge our enemy.  O no, that would be very wrong.  Every Christian believer knows that they have armor to withstand the wiles of the enemy and must apply it daily to avoid the wiles of the enemy.  Nevertheless, we are not powerless against the enemy, not one bit. We really just gotta walk in faith, believing in the word of God period, no if’ ands or buts. No matter how you slice it or dice it, this same power of the Spirit of truth, lives in us.

2nd Corinthians 4:13-14 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

Isn’t that cool?  The same Spirit that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead, is alive and well in us.  Here it is said, a little more clearly:

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:11

That same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, will raise up our bodies because it is that same Spirit, that dwells in us.

James 5:14-15 Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

“And the prayer of faith“:  I really like that because it sums it all up for me.  It is a prayer of faith that God will use to heal folks.  It is not us that heals anyone and not even a gift of healing that we are given by the same Spirit.  It is the faith that we have in the One who has given us the Spirit,  should He decide. It is our faith in Him.

There are so many verses to help us overcome fear and anxiety too.  When I was diagnosed with severe panic disorder a year and a half ago, I searched the scriptures and found as many as I could.  Then I began to declare them every time the symptoms would arise.  I no longer suffer with this by the way.  I was given a prescription that I took for about three months and decided I would take this problem to my Highest Physician and He directed me to His word.

I do not suggest that just anyone try it this way because I have great faith in my Lord and His word. Not everyone can truly depend on Him the way I do.  But for me. I cannot live life any other way.

He gives everyone a measure of faith and I also know that we receive the fruit of faith. To me that is a double portion and I claim it.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

The gift of faith by the fruit of the spirit – stems from saving faith and the fruit of faith;  is the ability to believe for the miraculous.

1 Thessalonians 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

This gift not only operates in healings and in miracles, but in the realm of the impossible as well. Saving faith produces the active faith of the fruit of the Spirit, which, in turn, produces the gift of faith. When the gift of faith is empowered, the results are miraculous.  Glory be to God.

Over and over again we read that faith was the key that led to healing. When He healed two blind men He said, “According to your faith will it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29). Acts 3:16 says, “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.” In Mark 2:5 we read, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.'”

In Luke’s gospel we read one account of the woman with an issue of blood. Luke 8:43-48 says, “And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. ‘Who touched me?’ Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, ‘Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.’ But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.’ Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'”

We must not forget though that not all are healed because infirmities can teach  us valuable lessons about our faith. Psalm 119:71 says, “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. ” And in Romans 5:3, “Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering  produces perseverance.”

The lessons about healing may direct our focus.

When Jesus was told that His friend Lazarus was sick, he remained where he was for two more days, saying,   “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory ” (John 11:4). When Jesus arrived at the location, Lazarus was dead. Instead of healing Lazarus, Jesus raised Him from death.

We may miss Jesus’ very important message if we are focused only on being healed from our disease and not on the Savior who heals. Often when Jesus healed in the gospels, He told the person that was healed not to tell anyone about being healed. He did not want people to focus on His ability to work miracles but on the glory of God.

I learned of this verse the very day before I buried my brother.

John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

I claimed it all the way through the drive to California and all the way through as I watched the bulldozer close up his grave.  My brother lived his life unto God and through his life and through my brother’s death and burial, God was glorified.

Either way, whether God decides to heal us or grow our faith in our affliction, it is all for His glory.  I believe that if we have a relationship with the living God, we are already walking in faith that Jesus is who He claims to be, the Son of the Living God. All things are possible to him who believes, not some things or maybe a few things, but ‘all’ things, not to mention without faith it is impossible to please God.  Our belief must be belief in what is true.

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as the disciples and the Apostles did. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and everyone in your house. THIS IS A PROMISE!

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9

1st John 3:23 ¶ And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

“The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the power of GOD was moving over the water”.

The power of God comes to us in the form of the Holy Spirit is the same power that moved upon the waters. At the beginning of time as we know it.

“The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the power of GOD was moving over the water”. ~ Genesis 1:2
