Be Prepared to Finish Well

2nd Timothy 4:1-8 ¶ I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

This letter was written to Timothy.  Paul was gently telling Timothy that he would need to continue the work.  He was charging Timothy before Yahwey and Yahushua.

Paul was giving clear instruction to Timothy to preach the word in any season of his life, in season and out of season.   I believe this means whenever there is an opportunity presented by the Spirit. We are called to be walking in the Spirit and worshiping in Spirit and in truth. I believe that Timothy was called to do no less.

Righteousness in action, doing and saying the right things, being just in all decisions, but firmly being led by the Spirit of Elohim in all seasons is of the utmost importance. Without the Spirit guiding, we are walking in and of ourselves.

If we are walking in and out of season, then in all the season of our life, we are equipped for every good work to do the will of Elohim. He will create in us what gives Him the most pleasure. He will provide us with everything we need to please Him.  All time and place belong to Yahwey.  He will position each one for the work that He wants to perform. This is why we must be prepared in and out of season.

Proclaim the message.  Be prepared, even if the circumstances are favorable or not, be prepared. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage people with good teaching.

We are supposed to be living our lives according to the audience of One. This is what counts before The God of Israel.  Not that we lived our life to please man. Our worship must engage the Spirit of Yah in our search and pursuit of truth. This is the kind of servant the Lord is looking for. He simply wants us to be sincere and honest before Him. Elohim is —Spirit. We who worship Him must do it out of our very being.  This is our adoration in action.

Paul let Timothy know that there would come a time when sound teaching would not be listened to and folks would heap up teachings according to their own desires in themselves, what their own ears were itching to hear. He further said that the folks would turn their ears from the truth and turn toward myths. Each one of us who is committed to the Living Elohim, has already been equipped perfectly through knowledge of His word.

Matthew said: Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.   7:6

This is the work of Elohim that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent. (Yahushua)  If a person does not believe in Yahushua, do not even bother them. Just go about your life, and pray that Yahwey circumcise their ears so that they can hear a word from Him.  They are stiff-necked and resist the Holy Ghost. Until their ears are opened, they will hear nothing you say. Your life is an example and the way that you treat them in and with His love is your service to Yah.

1 Corinthians 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

It is like building a house. It is when we take that extra time and care in picking out the building materials that we want to use, making sure that every board is straight with no bends or cracks. Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If we use cheap or inferior materials, we might pass inspection but our house may fall or rot. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous so if we are well prepared, using correct materials and built to the code of instructions; our inspection will pass fine. However we will not get by with a thing if our materials are cheap or inferior. If our work passes inspection, fine; if it does not, we may have to tear everything down and start over.  So, be prepared and you will finish well.

Proverbs 9:6-10 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.  He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.  Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

If we try to reason with an haughty or domineering non-believer, or someone who is practicing their own religion,  we will be slapped in the face; confront bad behavior and get kicked in the shins. Do not waste your time on a scoffer; all you will get for your pains is abuse. However, save your breath for the wise—they will be wiser for it. When we correct those who do care about life, that is different—they will love us for it!  We can share with good people who are yearning to learn, what we have come to learn, and they will profit from it.

Always point folks to reading their own scriptures and seeking the Spirit in all things.  Practiced living gets its start in the Fear of Elohim, discernment and observation into life from knowing a Holy Elohim.

2 Timothy 2:21-26 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,  In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Again the lesson is to be well prepared.  Having a kitchen that is well stocked is one with dishes that include our best; like crystal or silver and dishes that are for every day use.  Nevertheless, in that same kitchen you will have a garbage can or maybe a compost bucket.  Some containers are simply your best and some are just for rubbish, maybe even chicken feed.  Yahwey is looking for the kind of container that He can use to present all of His best gifts in and for bestowing His blessings.

Run away far and fast from your own indulgence.  Always be moving toward mature righteousness—faith, love, and peace—joining those together with honest and serious prayer before Yahwey. Hang out with like-minded people as much as you can to keep your ideas fresh.  Refuse to get involved in empty and insignificant discussions; they usually lead to disagreements.

A servant of Yah must not yield to the argumentive spirit so prevalent in nature.  He or she should strive to be a gentle listener, working patience with those who are willing to be disobedient.  A teacher can not teach or share what they have learned if they loose their cool or show impatience and we do not want to be a stumbling block to anyone who may be searching for answers. We never know when Yahwey might decide to sober someone up and change their heart, turning them towards His truth so they can escape that ole serpents trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.

I once read somewhere that in our determination and drive to search out and understand the truth of Scripture, we must never forget its purpose.  The study of the Word of Elohim is not to increase our knowledge or prepare us to win in arguments. It is to His glory that He equips us to do well.  The truth of Yah’s Word is always going to be compatible to our everyday life. When we are willing to believe and then apply it to our life, we can achieve and accomplish the blessings that Yah intends for our growth and yearning to please Him.

The application of Yahwey’s word is the most important stage of the process of growth.  Interpretation of the scripture is supposed to be built on discernment and observation to help one come to that final analysis of what they will hold on to and cherish so that no one will come along and change their mind.  This whole process must involve the Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth.

Paul finishes his charge to Timothy by letting him know that his work is coming to and end.  Because he has prepared well, he will finish well. He knows that his life has been an offering of the best kind that he had to offer and now knows that his offering unto death is no different.  He is ready.  He said that he fought the good fight and has finished his course.  I believe that right here he is using priestly language because in his mind, He has finished his service to Yahwey as a priestly officer of Hashem.

Paul said that he kept the faith.  He knows his reward is ahead of him, that none other than Yahushua Himself will give his reward to Him, and that He will judge Him justly and righteously.  He has no doubt what so ever.  This is his faith.  Paul also tells Timothy that everyone who is waiting for the return of Yahushua…. ON THAT DAY, will just like Paul, receive the gift of his or her faith at His appearing ON THAT DAY; Resurrection Day.

Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is our reward:  the gift of Yahwey is eternal life through Yahushua HaMashiach.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Salvation is the gift !
