Hebrews 10:7-10 ¶ Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
It is not necessary to suppose that this ‘taking away’ prohibits all animal sacrifices by the Levitical priesthood because in fact it did not then as they were still offering sacrifices until the Temple was destroyed. The author’s point here in Hebrews only relates to the sin offering as we can see through verses 14-15 that follow.
Hebrews 10:14-15 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
An offering for sin is no longer needed because the second sin offering system; the one through the eternal priesthood whereby Yahushua’s self and willing sacrifice is effectual in a way that the first never really was.
The other sacrifices that Yahwey deemed to be performed His way, according to His word spoken to Moses could still be continued through the Levitical priesthood without over-shadowing the role of Yahushua who provided the ‘once for all’ offering through the eternal priesthood.
The Holy Ghost is a witness to us that He has made this promise through the Prophet Jeremiah that He would remember our sins no more, where as before the laws required judgment for sin, was death.
This is the law that Yahushua paid at the cross when He was hung on the tree because sin was accursed by God’s eternal law.
Deuteronomy 21:23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
It had to be paid eternally. Yahushua gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father thereby doing so through the eternal priesthood.
Now as was promised and prophesied before by the Holy Ghost before,
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Hebrews 10:16-18
What laws? God’s one and only eternal laws. He never wrote any other set of laws.
The Holy Ghost would walk mankind through the rest of His life, helping him to obtain the righteous ways of God through up-right living in the presence of Yahwey because Yahushua had given His body, by a new and living way, which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; as the ultimate sacrifice to bring mankind back into the covenant of the Holy God, the Holy One of Israel.
The sin offering that God set up, was always a type and shadow of what was coming through Yahushua’s sacrifice. It never took away the sin. In a sense one could call it a ritual because that is what it became because the people totally did not keep their faith in God that He would one day bring it all manifest in the future.
Nevertheless for now, should sacrifices should be resumed in the future temple during the thousand year millennium, (which we presuppose the building of a temple at some future time) it will still be only a reminder of the great deliverance that Yahushua provided as a permanent and once-for-all effective sin offering and His resurrection as our High Priest through the eternal priesthood.
The sin offering sacrifice was always a memorial of the real thing and will always be a memorial of the real thing. Just as it never was more than a shadow it still remains a shadow of the better covenant.
The laws of God have to remain in place so that all those behind us can see the error of their ways. This is God’s Kingsom and He set up His own kingdom rules. However, He has given us His Spirit to help us keep moving closer to His eternal Kingdom and His righteousness.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
