The Veil

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:  What is the Lie?

There are many people who will attribute ‘the lie’ to just about anything that suits what they are teaching.

Misinformation can come from a spirit other than the Holy Spirit.  Misinformation can come through a spoken message, a sermon or a teaching.  Paul was concerned that these people at Thessalonica had been told that the day of the coming of the Lord had already happened and it hadn’t.

Paul points out in the first two scriptures that ‘the Day of the Lord’ is in direct correlation with the return of Yahushua HaMashiach ~ Jesus Christ.

2nd Thessalonians 2:1-2 ¶ Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto Him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

Evidently these folks had received a letter that they either misunderstood by a naughty spirit or maybe even a forged letter that had claimed Paul’s name.  Makes ya wonder doesn’t it?  Somehow, some kind of teaching, preaching or something written had gotten through to these folks and because of it; they may have been thinking that the Day of the LORD had already come. Paul wanted to clear up this nonsense.

I have heard before that there are people on earth still living today who also think this as well. I cannot imagine the sky rolling up like a scroll and my ancestors not having mentioned it throughout the generations of my family.

Even if when Yahushua had come the first time, born through the womb of Mary, if the sky had been rolled back then at His birth it would surely have been written down. In the writings of the second book of Timothy, Paul mentioned that some were saying that the resurrection is past already too so this wasn’t something that was being taught only in the central location of Thessalonica.

We know that by the time Yahushua began His ministry, there were already false teachers out there because the law had been perverted into legalism. This was His beef with the Pharisees, the Torah scholars of His day. Like Nicodemus, the Pharisees should have known better.

Paul encouraged the young leaders like Timothy and believers everywhere who read His letters that the folks should study to shew thyself approved unto Yahwey, the God of Israel, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This was and is still a good warning to always be looking at the truth of the issues at hand so as not to be misled by strange spirits, similar to the enemy who twisted the word in the garden.

MOVING ON:

2nd Thessalonians 2: 3-5  ¶ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

This is sure interesting isn’t it?  Paul never wrote any of this in the first letter to the folks so like he said, this is something that he ‘told’ them. I wonder why he didn’t put this part in writing.  Maybe the Spirit of prophecy came over him while he was there and he just spoke it and no one wrote that down.  Just a thought.

In any case this seems to be a prophecy to me because we do not have this written here in our text.   As John Henry once said, we are not to be wise above what is written. No shortage of oops -inions I am sure.  In any case Paul was bringing this back to their remembrance.

The proof that this man of lawlessness had not come yet was in the fact that there wasn’t an apostasy of the folks at Thessalonica.  Paul was telling these folks that this would happen first and ‘then’ the man of lawlessness, (A man without the Teachings of Yahwey/ Torah) would come.

Why do I say this man of lawlessness?  Anyone who goes about claiming that they are Yahwey is certainly an evil figure to say the least, the abomination that causes desolation.  Paul refers to him as a ‘man of sin’.  Sin is lawlessness.  ~ 1st John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Something to keep in mind is this: There are two different Greek words that are translated as ‘temple’ in English.  One word ‘hieron’ is used when Paul was referring to an actual building made with wood and stone.  The other word ‘naos’ is used when referring to the spiritual temple of Yahwey which refers to His people, the temple there-in.  Naos is the word used in 2nd Thess 2:4 and therefore is not talking about a physical temple. This physical temple is the sanctuary where Yahwey has chosen that His Spirit shall dwell with-in the heart of humankind.

2nd Thessalonians 2: 6 – 7 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

One day, Yahwey will deal with this man who is clearly working iniquity among the brethren and he will be taken out of the way. To read more about the one who Yahwey is holding back, read Revelation chapters 12, 13 and 20. Yahwey is the one whom I now believe is restraining the lawless man because Yahushua is waiting at the right hand of authority for Yah to say, “Go get My children”.

We know that this mystery that worked iniquity was already at work because John mentions it twice.

1st John 2:18 ¶ Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1st John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2nd Thessalonians 8-12 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The moral decline that we are witnessing today has been in effect since the garden. I believe it to be ramping up for sure but what I also see is an evil movement of the spirit, an evil inclination spearheaded by the master of lies and disguise, the lawless one,  the man of wickedness.  This man will be against Yah’s way of ordering all the universe because he wants none of it.  He will do everything with in his power to prove himself to be anti god, anti- Christ and anti law in the broadest sense, yet he will claim to be a god.  We will not recognize him as our Elohim because the sheep know His voice.  If I am alive when he comes on the scene, I have made a promise to myself to pinch myself.  If I feel it, He is not Yahushua,  because when Yahushua appears,  I will be changed in the blink of an eye and I should not feel pain. He is clearly an evil figure that is coming.

No matter, Paul just told us that once this man is revealed he will eventually be taken out of the way when the Lord shall consume him with the spirit of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

And now the clincher:  Those who will be destroyed along side of their leader (Ha Satan) are those who God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.  Why?  Because they did not accept the love of truth for them to be saved and because they took pleasure in unrighteousness.

So the question remains: What ever this truth is in direct correlation to unrighteousness and the people are under a strong delusion to believe that lie. They think that they are righteous when in fact they are not.  They are living under a false assumption because God has sent them a working of deception which causes them to think this.

The veil spread over the minds of Israel in Paul’s day was because of their inability to recognize and accept Yahushua as the Messiah.  There is today a veil over the minds of people, and that is, they do not accept Yahweh’s everlasting law.  Jews in Paul’s day accepted the law, but not the Messiah.  Today, Gentiles accept the Messiah, but not the law.

“For the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life” (2 Cor. 3:6).  The law is referred to as the “ministration of death” (2 Cor. 3: 6, 7).  In writing about the law Paul tells us the law brings wrath (Rom. 5:9), and death (Rom. 7:8 – 11).  But he explains that it is not really the law (the ten commandments) which brings death, but sin which is in man; the breaking of the commandments (Rom. 7:13).  At first Paul felt he was in good shape, but then he learned of the commandment which says, “You shall not covet” (Rom. 7:7).  It was then Paul realized he was a “dead man” (Rom. 7:11).  Why?  Because the law says, “The soul that sinneth it shall die” (Ezek. 18:4).  Has this law been changed – canceled?  Not at all.  Paul says to us today, “For the wages of sin is death, …” (Rom. 6:23).

The great Apostle Paul acknowledges that the ten commandments (therefore all the law) is good, holy, spiritual, and just (Rom. 7:12-16).  It is  Paul (and all mankind) who is the reverse (Rom. 7:16-23).  What can we do about this?  The answer is Yahushua the Messiah (Rom. 7:24-25).  Once we accept Yahushua, Paul says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Messiah …”  He has set us free from sin, and its final outcome, death:  death – for breaking Yahweh’s law (Rom. 8:1-4).  Yahushua has not abolished the law.  Instead, he has abolished the death penalty for breaking the law – if there is repentance.

black-veilSo we see that the “letter of the law” brings death (2 Cor. 3:6, 7).  Thou shalt not kill, covet, lie, commit adultery, etc.  We have all done some, or all of these.  The penalty? Death!  That is, if we do not rely on the great sacrifice of Yahushua (Rom. 7:24, 25; 8:1-4, Jn. 3:16).  The ministration of death (under Moses) was glorious.  The ministration of life (under Yahushua) is more glorious.  The first could not (actually) remove sins, but the ministration of life can.  Paul and others were ministers of and for this new covenant, which is a hope (2 Cor. 3:12).  The law was not done away.

Someone may ask, “What about verse 11?  Something was done away, and something else remains.  What are these?”  The shining of Moses’ face was done away after a time.  It gradually faded.  What remains, even today, is the glory of Yahushua the Messiah.  For a description of His glorious appearance please see Rev. 1:12-18.  Moses died, but Yahushua is ever living (Rev. 1:18).

A veil is still over the minds and hearts of many, but one day this will be lifted and they will see and understand that Yahushua is indeed the Messiah.  Scripture says, “Nevertheless, when it [The heart of man] shall turn to Yahushua, the veil shall be taken away” (2 Cor. 3:16; Rom. 11:12, 26).

Paul concludes chapter two by saying these words: “Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.”

So either one believes what they have been taught by their traditions (Commandments); those which have been taught by ‘the word’ or Paul’s letter.

Those who are believing what they are taught by their traditions are no different than those folks who were considered the scholars of their day; that were teaching legalism unto the law, adding this and that, which had NOTHING to do with what the law teaches and created it to be a burden.   These folks truly believed that they were doing God’s will but Yahushua knew then that they would rather walk in unrighteousness and be like the man of sin, one who lives without Torah.  Yet there were those who were believing what they were taught by their traditions that had been handed down by word of mouth or by Torah memorized were ‘doing’ what they knew to be truth. They were walking in the known will of Yahwey, their Elohim.

I can only imagine why Yahwey would send this delusion. If one opposes and exalts themselves above all that is called Elohim or that is worshipped and believes within their vessel (Temple) that they know better than Yahwey, the God of Israel, they are basically sitting in their temples believing that they are a god unto themselves.

Now our Lord Yahushua Messiah Himself, and Yah, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
