Almost everyone loves Summer but it is sure hard to find folks who really love the Winter. It isn’t easy for me at least, to see at first glance how beautiful the winter is. That is until I read a simple little verse.

For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. ~ Job 37:6

I also found out through reading the book of Job that God stores up the hail in His treasury to let it fall upon the earth in the time of trouble against the day of battle or war which he sure did during the time of Joshua.

Job 38:22-23 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

I guess I never really thought about the coldness of winter as being something that God had ordained. I know that may sound silly as everyone knows that He created everything, however sometimes as a human I actually forget sometimes the things that I obviously take for granted.

Today I saw the city 21 miles to my North that looked like a Winter Wonderland. The trees were all frosted; even the cars on the streets were frosted cold. Some looked like they might not open until they thaw. But even in the stark lines of winter we can see the work of a skillful artist – God who designed beauty to be dynamic, to renew itself in change. Perhaps God knew that mortal man would need to see the seasons as visuals to teach us that there is purpose in change.
