One of the obvious results in the decline of the bee population is the result of famine in the land because they are not going to be here to pollinate. Did you know that there are only three things that do not need the pollination of a bee and that is the grains, olive trees and grapes. They are pollinated by the movement of the wind.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. ~ Revelation 6:6
Honey bees for just one instance, pollinate 1/3 of our food growth. Honey bees are also the ones that bee keepers use to create honey, that yummy tasty stuff . BTW, A honey comb is the most sterile food environment on the planet. Must be why Yahushua ate this huh? Made since to me when I heard that.
Wasps are generally not considered to be important plant pollinators unless you live where fig trees grow, but they are called fig wasps, so they really are not the same as your average wasp. I don’t think wasps pollinate much at all in the way of food products. (maybe flowers ?) They are mostly predators that eat smaller insects in the garden.
Many flowers depend on bats to pollinate them, especially night blooming flowers like the moon flower. If a flower is fruity or mucky, a bat is drawn to it. But I have been hearing that the windmills out here in our area [Oregon] and of course where ever windmills are elsewhere, are killing off a bunch of the bat population. Our neighbors study bat life.
Back to the bee, I read once somewhere that there are about 20,000 species of bees worldwide. I did an article once on the cutter bees when I used to write for our local newspaper years ago. When I had visited that farm it was super interesting to learn about them. This is when I originally became interested in bees because I thought that they were so clever to build their own nests out of leafs.
There is a small bee called a mason bee that I am familiar with as they are out here on the farm too. They are smaller than the honey bee and look somewhat similar in shape but they are way different in color. They are bluish or greenish. I suspect the difference between a female & male perhaps. These bees pollinate mostly apple trees, which I am very thankful for but they also pollinate other fruits too.
Then you got your digger bees which live in the sand along the creek. They are mostly black with what looks to be a furry body with one white spot on their head and their behind, the ones I have seen out here anyway. I did look them up and they are also pollinators, thank You Yahwey. Since we grow alfalfa we have oodles of alkali bees and of course we have sweat bees. but they only irritate me and do not pollinate.
Twice in scripture, Yahwey has used famine in the land to gain the attention of His people.
Deuteronomy 8:3 And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Of course, this was the story of the famine during the days of Joseph. Here is another short scripture to remind us that there was famine in the time of Elijah.
Luke 4:25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
Speaking of bread, did you know too that the Hebrew word for bee is d’vorah? The root of this word is d’var, the literal meaning of which is ‘word’. To put it another way, physical bees are a picture of the ‘word’. Temporal bread, shows that we are in need of spiritual bread. I too, wonder if there is a physical connection to the vanishing of the bees to the spiritual famine of the word.
Amos 8:11-12 ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
Just a post for fun and learning.
