The Gifts of Healing by the Same Spirit

1st Corinthians 12:1-11 ¶ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. {accursed: or, anathema}

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. {administrations: or, ministries} And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

This was promised to the disciples of the Saviour; and in the early church was conferred on many. It would seem from this passage that the gift of healing was conferred on some in a more eminent degree than on others.

But is the gift of healing for today?

I say wholeheartedly YES.

Is the spirit of God alive in those who have called up on His name and received salvation?

Yes… The Bible tells us in the great commission, a great importance, which is often left out…

Mark 16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

And ‘these signs shall follow them that believe‘; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

So either one believes in all the commission or they don’t. Some might have a delusion that the gift of healing is not for today, but I believe that since it is part of what comes with the great commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel, with signs following those who truly believe in what they preach, then yes.. the gift is alive and well today.

I believe that it all falls under the gift of faith, by the same Spirit. Truth must always occupy our minds, otherwise we will be deceived to believe a lie rather than the truth, preferring false apostles and their erroneous doctrines to the pure truths of the Gospel, brought to them by the well-accredited messengers of God, that are written in the scriptures of the Holy Bible. We are to embrace the gifts of the Spirit for us now, just as they did back then because the same Spirit that dwelled in the Apostles and Disciples back then, is the very same Spirit that dwells in the believer today. To believe otherwise would be to believe a lie.

Matthew 17:19-20 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief.

Jesus told the disciples then that it was because of their unbelief that they had not been able to cast out a demon from a fella who had a demonic derangement. This person was so bad off that he often fell in fire or sometimes fell in water so much so, that his life was in continual danger. The enemy doesn’t care what state we were born in. He knows that with God their are no mistakes. He knows that God will and does work in folks who are born with what we might see in the natural as a disadvantage, God will use because He knows what He has created and like I said earlier, He never makes a mistake. But that doesn’t stop the enemy from going after those who are disadvantaged. He doesn’t care one hoot… because He also knows that God uses us, no matter what affliction we have.

We are not to be filled with unbelief. We would be useless to God if we did not believe and have faith in the gifts of the Spirit. Not the gift in us, but the Spirit who gave us these gift’s and this is Jesus who gave us His Spirit to guide us continually until our last breath.

We are not limited at all because we have great and wonderful gifts given to us by the Spirit. Jesus did not leave us defenseless against the powers of the enemy. In fact the word tells us just the opposite. He has given us authority over ‘all’ the powers of the enemy. Not only that but we are to rejoice not that the spirits are subject to God’s power but to rejoice because our names are written in heaven.

Luke 10:19-20 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

This doesn’t mean we need to run out and challenge our enemy. O no… that would be very wrong. Every believer knows that they have armor to withstand the wiles of the enemy and must apply it daily to avoid the wiles of the enemy. But we are not powerless against the enemy, not one bit. We really just gotta walk in faith, believeing in the word of God period, no if’s ands or but’s. No matter how you slice it or dice it, This same power of the Spirit of truth, lives in us.

2nd Corinthians 4:13-14 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

Isn’t that cool? The same Spirit that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead, is alive and well in us. Here it is said, a little more clearly: “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:11

That same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, will raise up our bodies because it is that same Spirit, that dwells in us.

James 5:14-15 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

“And the prayer of faith“: I really like that because it sums it all up for me. It is a prayer of faith that God will use to heal folks. It isn’t us that heals anyone and not even a gift of healing that we are given by the same Spirit. It is the faith that we have in the One who has given us the Spirit. Should He decide.

There are so many verses to help us overcome fear and anxiety too. When I was diagnosed with severe panic disorder in 2008, I searched the scriptures and found as many as I could. Then I began to declare them every time the symptoms would arise. I no longer suffer with this by the way. I was given a prescription that I took for about three months and decided I would take this problem to my Highest Physician and He directed me to His word. I confessed that I was powerless and His word was mighty to the bringing down of strong holds.   I was healed and no longer suffer that affliction.

I do not suggest that just anyone try it this way because I have great faith in my Lord and His word. Not everyone can truly depend on Him the way I do. But for me…. I can’t live life any other way.

He gives everyone a measure of faith and I also know that we receive the fruit of faith. To me that is a double portion and I claim it.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

The gift of faith by the fruit of the spirit – stems from saving faith and the fruit of faith; It is the ability to believe for the miraculous

1st Thessalonians 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

This gift not only operates in healings and in miracles, but in the realm of the impossible as well. Saving faith produces the active faith of the fruit of the Spirit which, in turn, produces the gift of faith. When the gift of faith is empowered, the results are miraculous.

Over and over again we read that faith was the key, that led to healing. When He healed two blind men. He said, “According to your faith will it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29). Acts 3:16 says, “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.” In Mark 2:5 we read, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.'”

In Luke’s gospel we read one account of the woman with an issue of blood. Luke 8:43-48 says, “And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. ‘Who touched me?’ Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, ‘Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.’ But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.’ Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'”

We must not forget though that not all are healed because infirmities can teach us valuable lessons about our faith. Psalm 119:71 says, “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.” And in Romans 5:3, “Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance.”

The lessons about healing may direct our focus. When Jesus was told that His friend Lazarus was sick, he remained where he was for two more days, saying, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory. . .” (John 11:4). When Jesus arrived at the location, Lazarus was dead. Instead of healing Lazarus, Jesus raised Him from death. We may miss Jesus’ very important message if we are focused only on being healed from our disease and not on the Savior who heals.

Often when Jesus healed in the gospels, He told the person that was healed not to tell anyone about being healed. He did not want people to focus on His ability to work miracles but on the glory of God.

I learned of this verse the very day before I buried my brother.

John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

I claimed it all the way through the drive to California and all the way through as I watched the bull dozer close up his grave. My brother lived his life unto God and through his life and through my brothers death and burial, God was glorified.

Either way, whether God decides to heal us or grow our faith in our affliction, it is all for His glory. I believe that if we have a relationship with the living God, we are already walking in faith that Jesus is who He claims to be, the Son of the Living God. All things are possible to him who believes, not some things or maybe a few things, but ‘all’ things, not to mention without faith it is impossible to please God. Our belief must be belief in what is true.

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
